I’ve gotten to know the “retired” Bishop Wilke a little bit since coming to Kansas. He’s a man full of wisdom, kind words, and action. He also isn’t afraid to give his opinion.

The book, The Tie That Binds offers us all four. It gives the reader a good look at the spiritual hunger of our society and the need for the church to be feeding this in a way that gets back to Biblical and Wesleyan roots. It is an easy-read with lots of stories and examples to make the point and offer ideas of how ministry could be different and, potentially, more effective.

I recommend reading it and possibly using the chapter questions in the back of the book to foster discussion with a group of people who care enough about reaching this world for Christ that they’re willing to act on their passion.
